The Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity, Canada, with financial support from the Government of Denmark, has developed an online training course on Knowledge Management for Biodiversity, which will be conducted from 20 August to 20 September 2024. The course will introduce participants to the fundamentals of knowledge management (KM), including the key concepts, processes, strategies, frameworks and different types of knowledge management systems. It will also cover organizational and societal aspects of KM, including knowledge organization, KM governance and culture, knowledge inclusion, knowledge diversity, and equal access to information. Participants will also learn about the KM elements of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF) and how they can be implemented. The course will consist of 16 one-hour modules and will be conducted in English.
The course is part of a broader Knowledge Management for Biodiversity (KM4B) Initiative, which aims to enhance the capacities of Parties and stakeholders to generate, collect, organize, share and utilize biodiversity-related data, information and knowledge to support evidence-based biodiversity planning, policy and decision-making, implementation, monitoring and reporting. The other components of the initiative include: KM4B webinars, regional workshops, KM change management programme and KM networks and communities of practice.
The Secretariat issued notification 2024-076 inviting Parties to the Convention and to it’s Protocols to nominate participants to join the course. As mentioned in the notification, we are also pleased to invite organizations representing indigenous peoples and local communities, women and youth, or other relevant stakeholders who are working in the field of biodiversity data, information and knowledge management to register for the course by completing the online form available at: https://zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_vKMeZkepQoGzVty9Zu-stQ#/registration.
