About Us

Since 1971, the founder of this organization has been involved in volunteer community services to help the needy poor and to build a happy community.  Understanding that one cannot do everything alone, he joined several international volunteer organizations in higher positions. Each of them had their own limitations & agenda. As the other volunteer organizations concentrated on a particular subject, with varied experiences from 1971 till 2017,  felt that he should establish our own local volunteer organization covering all the rights of all the individuals,  and to concentrate entirely on the community of Sri Lanka, Lanka Fundamental Rights Organization was founded.
On 8th August 2017, we incorporated Lanka Human Rights for Children & Elders as a Company Limited by Guarantee under the Companies Act No : 7 of 2007, pursuant to Section 5 read with Sec. 34  and Incorporation No : GA 3379. Although this Company was legally incorporated, our organization being a voluntary organization, it is compulsory that we should get the registration with the NGO Secretariat to be considered as a legally registered NGO.
Also, we noticed that the name does not represent our entire vision, we cancelled the incorporation, and directly applied for registration to the NGO Secretariat with a new, suitable name of Lanka Fundamental Rights Organization. The NGO Secretariat approved Lanka Fundamental Rights Organization and the necessary documents were handed over for the registration to the NGO Secretariat.
On 3rd May 2018, Lanka Fundamental Rights Organization was registered under registration No: L 167008 with the NGO Secretariat under  Voluntary Social Service Organization under  Act No: 31 of 1980 as amended by Act No: 08 of 1998.
Since registration, while we were organizing the Districts and the Divisions, with new members joining and the Corona epidemic, we had to move forward slowly. Now, in 2021,  the situation was slowly being normalized with restrictions, we started our operations strictly following the Health Authorities instructions.
Lanka Fundamental Rights Organization strives to ensure that all people can enjoy freedom, equality, and justice. Our Members are the advocates who hold governments and bureaucrats accountable to the people they serve. They are the activists who expose corporations which fail to operate responsibly and sustainably. They are the dedicated individuals and groups who work so that all people, even the most marginalized and disadvantaged are able to access adequate housing and health care, fair and just conditions of work, and a healthy environment. They work to ensure the fundamental rights of each and every one.
We promote and ensure fundamental rights from “Womb to Tomb.”
