Biodiversity – Wildlife and Agriculture

Animal damages by the Wild Animals to Agriculture is a big issue in Sri Lanka. Mainly it is the Elephant-Human conflict which has gone to the extreme, and in addition to this, from recently, Monkeys & Peacocks create big damages to the agriculture. LFRO Organized a program to plant Agawa trees to avoid the elephants coming out of the forests, and awareness was done through the distribution of leaflets. This project was done Awareness on the solution for Human – Elephant conflict, Monkey & Peacock issues and distribution of leaflets by with the assistance ofMr. Ramasinghe of the Tabbowa Wildlife Authority, at Tabbowa, Karuwalagaswewa, Pahariya and surrounding villages. LFRO Member Ms. A.Mary Saritha, who is very much interested in projects of Bio-diversity, Climate Change, Prevention of Disasters was the Project Chairperson. Impact of COVID-19 in the education system

19.01.2022 Kuruwita Central College in Ratnapura District was uplifted as a National School on 6th January 2022. The School opened after the long closure for the Covid 19 pandemic.  Many poor students were unable to get education properly due to the absence of smartphone, laptop facilities in their homes during this pandemic situation. Research suggests that children are more likely to develop negative psychological consequences due to the pandemic. Children have forgotten what it’s like to be in school. Ms. Nadika Kumari, National Director of LFRO for Youth & Psychology, organized a awareness program “ Fulfilling Learning Gap among Students” which included guidelines as to how to overcome the situation and carry out the education. This mixed School boys & girls totaling to 260 and the cost was only Rs.12,000/- for the refreshments.

Support for Covid-19 vaccination

At the request of our Negombo Branch Secretary Piyal Chinthaka Lamahewa, FAST3CYCLE donated masks and hand sanitizers for donation.
