The Elephant – Human Conflict is a big issue in Puttalam District in places such as Karuwalagaswewa, Tabbowa and Saliyawewa. After long investigation and with a trial at Neelabhemma by blocking the elephant path with a few Agawa Plants, we identified that the elephants does not close to this plant and changed their direction. Therefore as a first stage, we planted 300 Agawa Plants for one mile covering the elephant path at the 12th mile post by the side of the road from Puttalam to Anuradhapura. Further steps – we would grow elephant grass around all the lakes as fodder for the elephants, plant ginger around the electric fence and fruits trees for birds between the electric fence and the road. One of our newly joined Youth – Miss. Anandi Dharmendra supported us with 30 Agawa plants.
